{"id":654,"date":"2016-07-03T13:39:49","date_gmt":"2016-07-03T13:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/?page_id=654"},"modified":"2017-12-30T23:38:45","modified_gmt":"2017-12-30T23:38:45","slug":"hollands-farm","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/?page_id=654","title":{"rendered":"Hollands Farm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Hollands Farm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hollands Farm has always been at the heart of what could be called the old village.\u00a0 Its expansive fields, trees, hedges and wooded areas, providing ideal habitat for wild life, including bats seen regularly in the summer evenings,\u00a0 even an Adder some years back.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"pull-left\"><b><b>A<\/b>rchaeological finds<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The local area is known for its <span class=\"pull-left\"><b>archaeological finds<\/b><\/span> dating back to the before the bronze age.\u00a0 These finds include a 25&#8242; wooden bronze age boat, down by the Thames.\u00a0 The location one ancient encampment is described\u00a0 on the\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bourneendbucks.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=12&amp;Itemid=28\" target=\"_blank\">Bourne End Bucks<\/a> website\u00a0 as:<\/p>\n<p><em>Such an encampment was at Hedsor Wharf and in Mr. Lunnon&#8217;s field opposite his house &#8220;Southfields&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Southfields &#8211; is the name of the Farm House situated on Hollands Farm.<\/p>\n<p>More information on these sites and articles found some exploration of sites like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.archiuk.com\/index_form.htm\" target=\"_blank\">ARCHI UK<\/a> could be explored.<\/p>\n<h2>Wildlife<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;m not good with my birds and bees, or my birds and trees, but this is a partial list of what is out there.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_686\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bird-3jul16_0876.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-686\" class=\"wp-image-686 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bird-3jul16_0876-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Skylark - as sang in the Somme - taken Sunday 3rd July 2016\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bird-3jul16_0876-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bird-3jul16_0876-450x300.jpg 450w, http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bird-3jul16_0876.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-686\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Skylark &#8211; as sang in the Somme &#8211; taken Sunday 3rd July 2016<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In the air on Hollands Farm, we have<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bats &#8211; frequently found out and about feeding along the back of the houses just after dusk, their evening meals being attracted the subdued lighting towards the field.<\/li>\n<li>Buzzards, Falcons, Tawny Owls &#8211; <em>and yes the thieving &#8211;<\/em> Red Kites<\/li>\n<li>Skylarks &#8211; <em>100 years ago in the Somme, the troops would have been listening to the <em>skylarks<\/em><\/em><\/li>\n<li>Green woodpeckers &amp; Greater Spotted Woodpeckers<\/li>\n<li>Rooks, Crows and all sorts of garden birds and your obligatory Pheasants<\/li>\n<li>Various colourful butterfly&#8217;s and moths<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1182\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bat_0998.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1182\" class=\"wp-image-1182 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/whatisallthatabout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Bat_0998.jpg\" alt=\"Bat. If you can make that out !<br \/> Back (North side) Upper Hedsor Road (17Aug16)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On the ground on Hollands Farm,we have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Roe Deer, Muntjac, Foxes Hedge hogs <em>&#8211; &amp; probably<\/em> Badgers<\/li>\n<li>Field Mice, Rabbits, Moles, <em>(&amp; Glis Glis ?-<\/em> <em>I understand the Edible Dormouse is about &#8211; at least in the SE corner &#8211; but no one will admit it.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Adders &#8211; years back found in a garden backing the fields and &#8211; Grass Snakes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>can anyone add to this ? &#8211; <em> let me know<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m not going the local hedgerows in any depth but they and surrounding mature trees, and wooded areas provide an ideal habitat &#8211; alongside the river Wye and close to the Thames, for this wild life.<\/p>\n<p>Below are two mature Chestnut trees, with a Walnut tree growing between.\u00a0 These trees are in the order of 60 &#8211; knuckling down to winter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>if these trees don&#8217;t have a preservation order on them &#8211; perhaps they should ?<\/p>\n<p>The wildlife is living well alongside the local community.\u00a0 Loosing this land and habitat &#8211; at the heart of the of our village, will force some of it to further retreat the region, further from our community.\u00a0 A tragedy for the village at large.<\/p>\n<p>These working fields of Hollands farm &#8211;
